CLF Deploys Additional $1 Million to Help Rebuild Bahamas
One of the strongest Atlantic storms in history, and the strongest ever to hit the Bahamas, Dorian’s record 185 mph winds killed dozens and left more than 70,000 people in need of lifesaving assistance. Hundreds remain missing still.
Almost immediately, we began working with our on-the-ground partners to quickly assess conditions and needs. In response to the devastation, we quickly deployed emergency grants to support the immediate delivery of food and medical aid.
On September 19, we announced an additional $1 million in funding to Airlink, All Hands and Hearts, Direct Relief, the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center, Team Rubicon and World Central Kitchen to:
- Support mobile emergency medical teams providing rapid medical care, disease monitoring and prevention
- Rebuild hospital infrastructure and provide lifesaving access to medical care in remote areas
- Support the transportation of food to vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities
- Remove debris and mold from homes and assess long-term needs of schools
- Provide direct logistical support to help rapid response partners access hard-to-reach areas in Abaco and Grand Bahama
- Install a portable satellite system
With an unknown number of fatalities, hundreds still missing, and more than 70,000 people in need of lifesaving assistance, our work is ongoing.
